oya De Nicaragua was established in 1968, making it the very first and oldest premium handmade cigar manufacturer in Nicaragua. They are located in the city of Esteli, in what has come to be known as the tobacco capital of the world. ​In 2017 the Cuatro Cinco Double Robusto was the first Nicaraguan cigar to be awarded UK Cigar of the Year at a special ceremony in London.

​December 2018 saw Joya De Nicaragua awarded UK Cigar Producer of the Year at an award ceremony in London.
